Biology
In the context of Healing practice, it's perhaps easiest to explain the relevance of biology via the autonomic nervous system, which has two main branches:
1) The 'Sympathetic' nervous system is responsible for generating a cascade of physiological responses (e.g. increased heart rate, blood pressure, sweating etc) to manage stress. It's an 'accelerator' and sends us into fight / flight mode (2);
2) The 'Parasympathetic' nervous system is our rest and repair mode to restore harmony and a state of calmness. This is important for healthy regulation of all mind and body systems (2).
How does healing help?
The practice of healing is performed in such a way that the client is able to fully relax in a safe and supported space. When these conditions are met, the parasympathetic nervous system can facilitate healing and restoration.
